La Rivoluzione delle Seppie is a cultural association formed by a dynamic group of international young professionals interested in exploring the boundaries of practice and education. Through research, design, and training, La Rivoluzione delle Seppie aimed to enhance the cultural fabric of the community, promote social integration, and foster territorial development. Their main goal is to experiment with new pedagogies for all creative fields by developing both formal and informal learning projects, promoting intersections and exchanges between people from various backgrounds, including artists and professionals from around the world, with a residency program that includes the local community and migrants.
For the Malta Biennale 2024, La Rivoluzione delle Seppie drew inspiration from some of the world's oldest buildings at Ggantija (Gozo). According to legend, these temples were designed by a matriarchal giantess, Sansuna, while carrying her child on her hip and eating broad beans. These colossal mythical figures help us celebrate and critique human joy, prosperity, traumas, and difficulties. Using papier-mâché forms inspired by Mediterranean myth and carnival, La Rivoluzione delle Seppie addresses issues related to public space, infrastructure, and gender through workshops in collaboration with artists, academics, artisans, and local professionals. The Giantess and the beans are designed in collaboration with El Turbo Davido, Antoine Grech and his team of Maltese carnival float makers, under the patronage of the European Parliament.
