The heart of the Una Boccata d'Arte project, promoted by Fondazione Elpis in collaboration with Galleria Continua and with the participation of Threes, lies in the dialogue between contemporary art and Italian cultural heritage, finding its fullest expression in the small towns and villages.
As a curator who has been dedicated to the Emilia-Romagna region for two years, I believe it is essential to practice an artist residency before the creation of any artwork. In these communities, often remote and far from artistic hubs, it is necessary to experience the places, absorb the atmospheres, and get to know the inhabitants up close.
Only by doing so can one fully grasp the complexity of local dynamics and reflect them back through art.
The time spent in residence offers artists the opportunity to weave deep connections with the area and its community. This immersive process not only enriches their artistic practice but also becomes a powerful tool for telling authentic stories rooted in the traditions and transformations of these places. Through Una Boccata d'Arte, the aim is not only to bring art to these villages but also to foster a profound bond between the artist and the community, where art becomes a medium to give voice to the land, whatever story it has to tell. These villages are not mere postcard backdrops.
